Self employed and freelancers

Nobody files for you.

A salaried person has an employer doing the paperwork. A designer, a trader, a developer, a tailor, a consultant has nobody. NaijaPay keeps the record while the year runs, so filing is a button at the end of it instead of a week of panic.

An independent professional reviewing her earnings and deductions

APP DISPLAY, current build.

The thing you cannot get

Proof that you earn what you earn.

You are refused the apartment, the visa, the loan, the POS terminal and the bigger client for the same reason every time. You cannot prove your income. A salaried person hands over a payslip. You hand over a screenshot of a bank app and hope.

A tax record is the only document that settles it, and the only people who can issue one are the people holding the record. That is the whole reason to keep it properly.

A statement of income, generated from the record, not typed by you

A tax clearance certificate you are actually eligible for

A certified letter for a landlord, a bank or an embassy

Twelve months of history the day you need it, not two weeks later

A compliant income record

APP DISPLAY, current build.

Filing is what falls out at the end. It is not the product.

A return is a summary of a year that already happened. If the year was recorded as it went, the return is a button. So the app has to be worth opening in a week when you are not thinking about tax at all.

Every week

Send an invoice. Record a payment. Photograph a receipt. Chase a client who has gone quiet. Check what is actually safe to spend.

Every month

Watch the money set aside for tax grow. Watch the bill fall as expenses go in. Move the pension contribution nobody deducts for you.

A few times a year

Proof of income for a landlord. A tax clearance certificate for a visa or a contract. A record a lender will accept.

Once a year

File, before 31 March, and pay it out of money you already put aside rather than money you needed this month.

The two things that make it a habit.

Free invoicing

Send an invoice in under a minute, with your name on it and your account details on it. Every invoice you send is income already recorded, so nothing has to be reconstructed in March. Chasing is one tap.

From July 2027 the business you invoice will need a compliant electronic invoice by law. Yours already will be.

Snap the receipt

Most self employed Nigerians overpay tax because they never claim what they are entitled to. Software subscriptions, equipment, data, training, a desk in a workspace, the trip to the client.

Photograph it when you pay for it. We keep it, categorise it and put it against your income at the end of the year.

What we are not

We file for you. We do not report you.

The fear is reasonable and we are not going to pretend it is not. Nine in ten Nigerian workers are informal, and a lot of them believe any tax app is a way for the government to find them.

So here is the line, and we hold it. NaijaPay acts for you, the way an accountant acts for a company. Nothing about you leaves this account without your explicit consent, recorded, for that specific purpose. We do not sell data, we do not share it with anyone you have not agreed to, and we will never build a feature whose job is to expose you.

The reason to be on the record is not fear. You are already earning it. This is how it starts counting for something.

Everything is free except the filings and the certificates.

No monthly subscription, on purpose. A free tool gets forwarded in a WhatsApp group. A paid one does not.

Pension

The deduction nobody makes for you.

A salaried worker has pension taken out before the money reaches him. You have to remember, decide and transfer it yourself, every month, forever. Almost nobody does, which is why so few self employed Nigerians have a funded pension account at all.

NaijaPay is the deduction you do not have. Set a figure once and it comes out with everything else, before you get used to spending it.

Set aside first, spend after

Every payment that lands is split the moment it arrives. Tax goes to one side, pension to another, and what is left is genuinely yours. In March you pay a bill out of money that was never in your spending account.

Questions independent earners ask.

I earn under ₦800,000 a year. Do I owe anything?

No. Since 1 January 2026 the first ₦800,000 of annual income is taxed at nil, so if that is all you earn there is nothing to pay. Keeping the record still gets you proof of income, which is usually the reason people came looking in the first place.

I have a salary and I also work for myself. Which am I?

Both, and the law expects a personal return from you either way. One account holds the salary side and the independent side, and the annual picture adds them together.

What if I have not filed for years?

Say so and we will tell you honestly what it takes to get straight, including what it will cost and what the exposure is. We would rather lose the sign up than pretend a bad situation is simple.

Do you hold my money?

Money set aside sits on a licensed partner rail, never on our balance sheet. We are a tax compliance company, not a bank, and we are not going to blur that.

Is my data shared with the revenue service?

Only what a filing requires, only when you have told us to file, and only with your recorded consent for that purpose.
